Rock-in-a-box
Worthless Merchandise Scheme
What a bargain! - $100 for a new color TV. Sure it's suspicious but the box is sealed. Maybe it is stolen, but that's not your problem. Victim buys TV and takes it home. When he/she opens the box out comes well padded rocks.
It's a rather simple scheme where suspects use brand new packing boxes for laptop computers, TVs or VCRs and pack them with material approximating correct weight of represented item. Suspect then approaches victims and tells them he works for a TV store and has a few units to sell. The selling price is always so incredibly low that the victims seldom ask to see the contents of the box. Upon arriving at home the victims discover a box containing bricks or rocks.
